JSAT - Japanese Speaking Ability Test

What is JSAT?

The JSAT is a job-based, job-specific Japanese conversation skills test.
It uses image and automatic speech recognition technology to assess communication skills,
including the expertise required for each job category in the real world.

Testing Methods and Fees

Test Site: Locations certified by JSAT

Equipment: Using the examinee's smartphone

Examiner: Monitored by JSAT certified examiners

Examination time: Approximately 20 minutes

Pass Certificate: A digital certificate of passing is issued upon successful completion of the test

Information about Becoming an JSAT Exam Venue

❶ Selection of examination venues through on-site investigations.
❷ Internet speed requirements:
・Possession of Wi-Fi connectivity equipment：
　・Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E, or Wi-Fi 7.
・Connection speed to Amazon Web Services (AWS) Tokyo in Japan：
　・Upstream speed: 30 Mbps or higher
　・Downstream speed: 50 Mbps or higher
❸ A minimum of five qualified invigilators is required.(Japanese inspectors must provide a copy of their passport. Foreign invigilators must have N2 qualification.)
❹ Examination room seating requirements:
Able to accommodate 10 or more candidates taking the exam simultaneously.
・Each candidate's seat (center point) should be at least 1.25 meters apart
(to ensure that candidates' voices do not interfere with each other during the answering process).
・If in the same space, partitions are required that can completely block the neighboring candidate's screen.
